I was originally going to apologize for the lack of photos because I spent an entire day soaking in the Budapest thermal baths and getting heatstroke, but it seems like there's plenty to show.
The hostel that I booked was a small 5 room hostel with a hilarious jolly old man with a serious mustache. It was nice to be able to just hang out with the owner, which was a nice change from all of the other large hostels I stayed in.
One day I was walking around when an older gentleman approached me and tried to guess my ethnicity. After he failed 5 times, I finally told him and he responded by saying, "Ooh, you know, I really like Asians. I like a lot." I thanked him and left ASAP. Was a bit too creeped out to stick around for more clarification hah...

Ruin pubs are hip in Budapest. Here's Szimpla Kert. |
I also found out that there was a cemetery near the train station with angel statues. As much as I love imagining that they're the evil Weeping Angels from Doctor Who, I was touched by the level of emotion exhibited by the statues for lost loved ones. That devastation is really raw.

Weeping Angel from Doctor Who for comparison. Don't blink! |
Last, but not least, here's a story of my utter stupidity and God's unending grace towards me. My plan after Budapest was to take a night train to Krakow, leaving at 20:00. For some reason, I assumed that 20:00 was 10pm the entire day. But since it's hot in Europe and I was going to take a night train (no way to shower because I already checked out of my hostel), I spent most of the day chilling at an indoor mall until I got really bored and couldn't bear to stay anymore. I remember telling myself that I'd just go to the station around 7pm and read for a few hours. So even though I arrived at the station before my train left, I still did not register that 20:00 was 8pm. Thankfully, eventually, somehow it clicked in my brain that my train was leaving two hours earlier than I anticipated and was able to board my train about 10 minutes before departure. Grace, grace, grace.
